There were half a million people along the Portsmouth shores watching the racing and supporting Sir Ben Ainslie and his team in the opening event.
The Americas Cup Trophy has been around for centuries and is the oldest international sporting trophy. It was originally awarded in 1851 to the schooner America who won the race around the Isle of White in England. Since then Americas cup has become an international competition.
This year’s 2015 Americas Cup was won by Sir Ben Ainslie. Even though the third day of racing was unfortunately cancelled due to the winds exceeding more than 30mph, he still had come first place and second in the two races that took place on Saturday which meant he won overall.
Our congratulations goes out to Ben and the team.
