Last week saw the 2016 Yachts and Yachting awards presented at the London Boat Show. The annual awards recognise the best clubs, events, performances and products of the past 12 months. There were 15 categories overall ranging from ‘Dinghy of the Year’ to ‘Best Amateur Sailor’.
This year Topsail Insurance were please to sponsor the award for ‘Sportsboat of The Year’. The award went to the K8 Sport team. Of the K8, Yachts and Yachting said:
“Australian based company, Advanced Wing Systems, who developed the K8 take full advantage of their Semi Rigid Wing (SRW), which uses patented technology to create a semi rigid aerofoil that can hoisted, reefed and stowed.
The K8 has been designed with ease of sailing in mind to attract a wide range of sailors and is optimised to take full advantage of the wing sail to deliver, what the manufacturers claim is a fast yet highly stable race boat.
The initial design brief for the K8 was to create an exciting sports boat that is easy to sail with a small crew. The K8 has powerful lines to take advantage of the extra power of the wing. The wide chines provide narrow heeled waterlines and high stability allows the boat to be easily sailed with four crew”
K8 took to Facebook to thank Topsail for the award, writing:
"Thank you Topsail Insurance for your ongoing support within our industry. A proud moment for all involved in the K8 Sports project."
